Document Summary

Always told in order; however most narratives screw up the order. This is to say, mimesis (in its purest form) us aesthetic representation of real events, while diegesis (in its purest form) marks the manner or way of such representation. Composed of two different elements: the stories we tell (matter) (fabula) the content, what happens, how we tell these stories (manner) (sjuzet) The incidences (the matter) can be arranged in different ways, different manners. Mimesis: imitation of actions, when a poet adopts a persona to deliver a speech. Diegesis: recounting of actions, when a poet (author) speaks in their own voice (narrator) Mimesis involves no narratorial mediation, while diegesis is defined by narratorial mediation. Plot, think of it as a verb. Plotting, think of it as a graph you did in math class. Plot: not a noun but a verb; not a thing but an action (e. g. plotting) The narrator is the manipulator and interpreter of information.
