If your visual skills are so distorted by culture you are blind to reality. How it had evolved and changed over time. Junoesque women: tall, full gures, full busted, mature. Fat was seen as a silken layer that graced the frames of elegant ladies. Even in the last 50 years there"s been a huge shift. Marilyn monroe (voluptuous) to kate moss (skinny) to twiggy (the 60s waif). Ideal woman image varies over culture: heavier built in india. i. e. fattening rooms in parts of africa. I. e. anorexia: a model, ana carolina reston, 21, died of anorexia nervosa. Slimness and youth go hand in hand. Western women"s desire to distance themselves from their reproductive functions. They dress in a way that accentuates their slim androgyny. We are saturated with images and narratives that encourage us to consume. The mark of distinction in such a consumerist world may be restraint.
