Katniss Moral Character
- Victor, but has not lost her moral character
- When Rue’s dies, Katniss was still able keep her moral because the Capitol wants the
tributes to blame other tributes for the deaths of the tributes instead of the Capitol itself
- The song Katniss sings to Rue when she dies, it is evident that she loves Rue; it is not only
that Rue reminds her of her sister; but Prim has everyone back in District 12 to love her, Rue
has no one
- These hunger games were created to turn the district against each other, but Katniss’ moral
character interfered with that system
- Katniss’ relationship with Rue is powerful due to the nature of the Hunger Games
- Katniss’ first radical act sets the basis for the following radical acts
- Odds are always in the favour of the Capitol but in these hunger games, the odds are turned
against the Capitol because of Katniss’ radical acts
Katniss’ smart
- She bought the goat because it is capable of paying for itself
- She gave the goat as a gift to her sister
- She wants to think about herself as smart and powerful and not about emotions
- She also acts on impulse few times; she can act and behave instantaneously without
thinking through it
- Before going into the Hunger Games, her plan was to not get attached or form alliances in
the Games because everyone is going to die and forming bonds is counter-productive
- However, she does befriend Rue, so you can tell that even she does not know how she will
act or behave
- Katniss’ outerself does not match her inner self
- Moment of hesitation only occurs when the readers question if Katniss’ actions are right or
wrong
Only one victor
- Capitol wants Katniss to kill Peta
- When Katniss pull out the arrow ready to kill Peta, the arrow is still in the bow moral
character
- If her intentions were truly to simply win for herself, that arrow would have been in Peta’s
chest
Censorship
- She does it almost everywhere except for the when she goes into the wilderness to hunt
- She can’t look weak in front of the cameras because she knows she’ll be an easy target
- This seems to be quite easy for Katniss because she has always hidden her emotions from
everyone
Katniss Vs. Capitol
- Katniss and Capitol do not share the same views on beauty
- Capitol views beauty with thinness while Katniss does not seem to find it attractive
- Being chunky shows signs of a good health back in the District
Cina
- Katniss, the girl on fire created by Cina and it is needed for her
- Needed for her in order for her to find herself
- In the interview Cina tells Katniss to be herself because no other personality would fit her
Relationship with Peta
- Starcrossed lovers from District 12 helps Katniss
- Mixture of what’s real and not real makes it confusing for Katniss
- Katniss sometimes does not know whether or not to trust Peta because he joins the Career’s
alliance, Peta not training with her anymore and there were a few other factors that made
Katniss think that Peta is not on the same side as her
- However, as the rule of the final victor changed, she processed all the information about the
cameras and media
- She processed that the people from the Capitol are watching these so called ‘star crossed
love’ and wants to see it succeed so that means that Peta is really on her side
- Until this point, she was still on the fence about whether or not she should trust Peta
