127 views3 pages

Document Summary

Narrative form: filmic organization in which the parts relate to each other. Stylistics: use of film techniques ex. music, appearance, character movement. Cannot separate form and content or narrative form and style. Stylistic and narrative elements form pattern (every part of film) Different forms means different experience (reading a book then watching a film) Subject matter can be applied in different forms. Artists shape materials in different ways consciously and unconsciously. Patterns cue us to form expectations - expectations are a form of play in which they engage us. If form is same every week people stop watching. We expect a certain form or pattern but must not be predictable and can"t be too different (no frame of reference) Set of prior experiences in film are sets of conventions. Convention: what is allowable within the parameters of specific type of genre. We should not watch a film expecting to be realistic but should convey meaning.
