The alien invasion may stand for the fear of communists, that they will come in through the back door, and subtly sway the public opinion, away from what it is. If youre not critical of the dominant ideology then youre going along with it. Ideology is the discourse that invests a nation or society with meaning. Different ideologies can mash together and become the same. If you accept your place in this natural order, you get bought into ideology. What are the depictions of how ideology works in the film. The films critique of capitalism still applies even though its old. How does the film depict notions of freedom and individualism. What do we value the most in our society.
