Many ancient thinkers knew: the earth was round, there were other worlds, the earth moved around the sun. The area of triangles in the ellipsis is the same area even though di erent distance. Scientists in india and china developed rockets as early as the 13th century. Mostly out of bamboo and add gunpowder: energy moves out in all directions.
