Community marginalisation and the diffusion disease and disorder in the us. Extent and intensity of psychical and social deterioration in large american cities. Principle underlying cultural assumption of the polices creating these conditions is that the effect of the devastation is being and will be confined largely to the targeted communities: separated from suburban counties with affluent people with power. Second assumption is that even if there is suburban leakage this will not greatly affect the nation as whole. Three mechanism acting at different scales have found to characterise the spread: hierarchical diffusion, spatial contagion and network diffusion. Spatial contagion: radical spread along local travel routes from central city into adjacent communities, slightly smaller scare. Network diffusion occurs in a still smaller scale: spread long personal, domestic and community social nets. National and regional scales are bridged by 2 determinants of the epidemic structure: links between regions and the socioeconomic structure, function and history of the individual region.
