The american exhibition meant to sell america and america way of life to soviets to make them so jealous that they would want to live the way americans were perceived to live. Nixon played host of exhibit - he guided the soviet prime minister. There was heated arguments over communism vs. capitalism. But not over merits, over their appliances (ex. washing machines) - known as the kitchen debate. A cloaked ideological struggle fought on a cultural background. For nixon american victory was more then just war. Talking about the american rockets would point to americas weakness in the point of a ww3. The russians were also more advanced with rockets and spudnek. So nixon choose to talk about things that related to the good life. He did this by pointing out that post war success was in the good life. consumption. It was almost a foreign concept prior to this time.
