Document Summary
French: belgium: independence in 1830 as a new neutral kingdom, britain: 1829 roman catholic relief act; 1832 great parliamentary reform act, 1834: creation of the zollverein; a german customs union. Through the 1820"s most of the regimes created by the congress of vienna managed to survive. These revolutions remind us that the organizations that changed these regimes were weak and unorganized. Great britain: steady, pressing demands for parliamentary reforms. People asking for the end of systemic religion persecution. People asking for the right to vote. The corn laws limited the amount of wheat that could be imported which led to a higher price for those who needed it: led to many protests. Tensions with ireland: was the most open society in europe at the time. Freedom of opinion was the most advanced. Protests were not underground movements, they took place in the open.
