Nov. 14, 1908: death of guangxu(empress was acting as his regent) Puyi, great nephew of empress cixi ascends the throne at age 3(hia father, prince. 1909: election of provincial assemblies (less than 1% of population can vote) But: 1911, manchu court forms a cabinet with 8 manchu, 1 mongol and 4 chinese members(manchu are still not willing to give up power) Army officers mutiny and tack control of the city. Nov. 1911, 2/3 of chinese provinces secede from the qing dynasty. Feb. 1912: the last emperor, puyi (age 6) abdicates. Sun zhongshan is made provisional president of the new republic of china. April 1, 1912, sun zhongshan relinquishes his duties as provisional president(give the position to someone who has more military power, yuan shikai)
