History notes: the end of the vietnam war. Nikita khrushchev wanted to calm down conflicts in the civil war. Mao zedong ran china; chinese powers were humiliated by the western powers. China had an infinity to other colonial empires. Zedong wanted to upset the current international system, the complete opposite of what russia wanted to do. Both china and russia ban competing with each other for allies around the world. Al of sudden the cold war became a lot more complicated. This produced challenges for north vietnam, as they needed them both as allies. Didn"t want to use the support of one over the others. The soviet union was worried that the war in vietnam was escalating, and could potentially lead to a third world war. However this split also managed to benefit north vietnam. The hanoi government could play both sides against each other. This allowed the to exact more concessions over one and the other.
