America air base where a lot of the rolling thunder campaign was based out of, obvious target for the vietnamese to prevent further bombing. Political and military situation is deteriorating, bombing alone will just destroy everything and not fix the situation, spring in 1965 went into an offensive role (switched from an advisory) *major switch. Numbers of troops began rising to alarmingly high numbers (half a million by 1967) The more troops they sent, the more enemy troops they would discover and kill to weaken their force. Helicopters were a major technological advancement that was crucial to the war effort (fast and effective, major reliance on air support) Herbicide (called agent orange, came in orange containers): airplanes would spray chemicals to kill the jungle and therefore expose insurgents hiding inside. Proves it was not a traditional war about fronts, but about ideas and the spread of government (cid:862)forgotten(cid:863) oldiers of the arvn.
