In charge of the army until 1938 until hitler ousted him because he stood up to. It was thought the police would then take over and oust nazis from positions of power: the problem was that only one of the bombs went off. They decided to go ahead and try to convince people hitler was killed, but not everyone implemented the plan because they weren"t convinced hitler was killed. The kreisau circle (1940-1943: a group of intellectuals who sat around and talked about what they wanted post-war. Germany to look like they weren"t doing anything actively to depose hitler: they had some connections to the july 20th plot, but the majority were inactive. It had some influence beyond their own university in munich students in other universities were starting their own branches in solidarity with the white rose. They were executed in february, and the rest of the leadership was discovered later and executed in april.
