International sexual abuses have grown significantly over the past 30 years. Increased travel = people more aware of oppression in other countries. Tv - spread message of global oppression. Activists have rallied behind a number of issues concerning men, women, kids. Concerned w physical and psychological effects of these problems. Wasn"t what is cracked up to be; there were serious implications (rape, pregnancy, stis) Aids crisis highlighted that permissive sex or monogamous sex w wrong. Aids are fraught w moral judgements about who got it, why they got it, how person and drug use could be deadly they got it. Hindered fight against aids because of aids - had stigma attached. Education, medical intervention, compassion (effective solutions) delayed. Those w aids were seen as immoral/inferior. Sexually transmitted disease mostly, vaginally or anally. Spread through virus found in contaminated bodily fluid. Breastmilk; mother to fetus in pregnancy; accidental exposure from patient to healthcare worker.
