There are more of an economic motive for the pirates, rather than political, but do still see a sense of political involved. Pirates wanted to cause political instability: 2007 iranian national guard take british servicemen. An act of piracy because they were not in iranian waters. Isis could prove to be an economic danger to tourist activities, leisure sailing, and drive up the cost of living for europeans. Reasons for piracy: failed states, poverty, corrupt governance, absent/weak navies, little counter measures, rich trade routes are easy pickings. Film becomes most influential means of displaying piracy. They are distorted images and displays of piracy. Treasure island book, peter pan: fictional way of pirates, eye patch, pegged leg, the slang of pirates. Pirates are in a rose tinted view (romanticized version of pirates used in movies to appeal the public. Pirates seen as romantic hero"s, rebels against authority. Most refer to golden age of piracy.
