He argued that modern sexuality was shaped in the 19th century by what he called discourse"s about sex. And there were forceful agents in society that created the knowledge people were supposed to have about sex. Out knowledge is imposed upon us by societal institutions. He said that these discourses had their roots in europe starting in the 17th century. (however discourses about sex go back way farther even the bible has rules written about it).
