Bce= before common era vs bc= before christ. Ce= common era vs ad= after death. Men of greece: hetaerae (singular: hectaera), eunuch. Remember that we only really know things about the elites of this era because they are the ones who were recording history and had the ability to do so. Men had greater sexual freedom then woman. Men expressed little interest in female sexual pleasure they engaged in sex with slaves and prostitutes and they would brag about how many woman they had, had sex with in brothels. The more money you had the more you could buy. Men would have long term mistresses called hetaerae. They were not prostitutes they were smart, beautiful, artistic women. They still were selling themselves for sex but they were at a higher class level and were sought out by more elite men. There was choice in these actions they chose to be prostitutes.
