Major events: king philip"s war (1675-76); bacon"s rebellion (1676-77); england"s. Popish plot (1678), exclusion crisis to 1681, and glorious revolution (1688-89) British constitutionalism: emphasizes property, liberty, no popery fear of indians, catholics, witches (fear of hidden plots/conspiracy theories) Troubled by various english laws that disadvantaged native americans. Warned the english that metacomet was plotting against them. Destroyed 12 puritan towns and attacked 40 others. Many natives captured and sold into slavery. Indentured servants angry that their opportunities for land are drying up. Solution: a war against all native americans (allies and hostile groups) Worried there was an indian conspiracy big enough to include all of eastern north. Refused to grant permissions for bacon and his soldiers to go west. Bacon goes anyway to rebel against the natives and his own government. Central cause of rebellions was english encroachment of native lands. King charles ii (1660-85) king james ii (1685-88) and catholicism: Admired the french monarchy, wanted toleration for catholics.
