Health Sciences 4091A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Positive Feedback, Well-Order
Document Summary
Psychic disorder= information that conflicts with existing intentions, or distracts us from carrying them out, ex. When the internal order of the self is disrupted- information that conflicts with person"s goals appears in the consciousness (consciousness) The disruption demands personal resources in the form of attention. The amount of attention required by the disruption is dependent upon how serious a threat it is: subjective self determines this. Attending to the disruption leaves less attention for other priorities needs, wants (work, school, family, friends, etc. ) Essentially stated- the more serious the threat, the more resources it will take from the good stuff and the necessary stuff. Information that disrupts consciousness by threatening its goals= inner disorder or psychic entropy- a disorganization of the self that impairs its effectiveness. It is the (cid:498)symptoms(cid:499) of psychic entropy (pain, fear, rage, anxiety, jealousy, etc. ) that divert attention way from the desirable and towards the undesirable.
