White 1 The Children’s Health and Activity  Weekly field trips (Spikes, Laser Quest, Fleetway, East Park) Modification Program  Cost per family - $200 including transport,  Lifestyle intervention program for obese family membership at YMCA, field trips, T-shirts, children and their families (risk of diabetes) NOT lunches  2 yr pilot funded by Lawson Foundation  Financial commitment: didn’t want a barrier but  Many community partnerships wanted parents to feel obligated since they paid  Group based physical activity Purpose  Group based educational sessions related to nutrition, physical activity, behaviour  Develop, implement, and assess the effectiveness of a 4 week lifestyle intervention modification  Group names, logos, cheers, flags for obese children ages 10-12 at a risk for type 2  Older campers pair up and help younger diabetes and their families  Increase physical activity behaviour during and  CHAMP road trip across Ontario – team goal setting following the intervention  Improve physiological and psychological  Daily completion of “passports” with sections devoted to enhancing cohesion during program outcomes as well as dietary patterns and self efficacy and social support after it ends  Buddy system for children and family members Participants Details  Year 1 (2008) – 15 children (8girls 7boys) ages 8- 14  Week 1 – Sports Week  Year 2 (2009) – 25 children (12girls 7boys) ages  Week 2 – Healthy Eating Around the Clock  Week 3 – Olympic Week 10-12  All with BMI higher than 95 percentile for age  Week 4 – Adventure Week  Everyday: and sex  Resistance training Intervention  Sports/fitness based activity  Nutritional session  4 week group based lifestyle intervention  Educational session (August 2008, 2009)  Mon. – F
