Immigrant latino"s had the lowest rate of death, and were the healthiest. Immigrants bring culture, close social and family ties that create a shield around the social determinants of health. Social isolation can cause death and increases risk for every cause of death, can accelerate ageing, being socially isolated leans on the body slowly affecting you. Lesson"s of america: family isn"t enough to protect you. Garage town"s youth center, teenagers volunteer, hang out or do homework. For each step across the wealth gradient there is a health gradient. When immigrant your wealth does not determine your health but over time as you become more american you fall closely into that gradient. The longer the latino"s are in america the more they suffer with discrimination, bad schools, racism, etc. Of the poorest people that started in the 1980s were still there. For the most part the overwhelming majority of people don"t move up that ladder.
