Health Sciences 2045A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Electronic Health Record, Long-Term Care, Personalized Medicine
Document Summary
Illness associates with lifestyle cost the nhs 11 billion pounds each year. This is relevant because health economists look at this data and possible things they can implement to address lifestyle issues like obesity and see if the programs are of benefit. 4/10 middle ages people have long term conditions that have no cure. There is more to health data than an electronic health record, examples; epidemiology, etc. Health data has never been in a form that we can do something with. It can be disparate all in different places, ie with doctor, dentist, etc. In 1996 you became the owner of your health data and the health provider (whom used to own the health data) became just the custodian. Health data also was not very timely, we can get a lot of data but it cannot be used for a long time. Also the data tended to be pretty poor.
