Health Sciences 2300A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Anterior Superior Iliac Spine, Inferior Gluteal Nerve, Superior Gluteal Nerve
Document Summary
Supply neck muscles and the skin that overlays our neck. Phrenic nerve innervates the diaphragm (main respiratory muscle). The health of this plexus is crucial for normal function of our lower limbs. The nerves come from the lumbar and pelvic region. Most branches supply muscles of the anterior and medial thigh, and skin on the lateral side. Lateral femoral cutaneous (only sensory) passes beside the anterior superior iliac spine. Femoral it is the largest and thickest nerve that comes out of the l2-l4 lumbar region. Lumbosacral trunk is the name of the ventral rami of l4 and l5. Ventral rami s1 s4 contributes to the sacral plexus. Supplies muscles and skin of posterior hip, thigh, leg, and genitalia. Sciatic largest nerve in our body and is broken up into a fibular and tibial nerve. Pudenadal does not pass through the greater sciatic foramen. Superior gluteal nerve exits out superior to piriformis while inferior gluteal nerve enters inferior to piriformis.
