Stepping it up: moving the focus from healthcare in canada to a healthier canada. Socioeconomic, cultural and environmental conditions of our lives have a stronger impact on our health then personal factors. In canada: people have the mindset that the health of canadians is the responsibility of the ministry of health. When the majority of factors affecting our health require the problem solving skills of multiple government departments, multiple levels of government and society as a whole. Income: relationships, access to food, quality of health care services, race, gender, culture, environment. Physical and natural: housing, schooling, education, communities, workplace. In 2009: the institute of wellbeing stated that canada is falling behind other industrialized nations in measures such as poverty, the degree of inequality between the rich and the poor and investments in social programs. May be possible to reduce but not eliminate. Canada was once a leader in this department: 1974.
