Health Sciences 3801A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Complement Factor B
Document Summary
Group orientated design with more than 1 independent variable. An experiment has a factorial design: when it consists of 2+ independent variables that are combined such that each condition of one independent variable is tossed with every condition of the other independent variables. In factorial experiments, independent variables are usually called factors : factor a is crossed with factor b; some people in control and experience condition 1 some people in control that experience condition 2. A factorial experiment consist of: main effects = avg effect over conditions of the other factor. Row and column means: simple main effects: effect in a speci c condition of the other factor. Means within the cells: interaction effect: degrees to which the simple main effects are not equal. Results of an analysis of variance are often presented in the form of a summary table that lists the sum of squares, degrees of freedom, mean squares, and f ratios.
