Huge pandemic where an health system was already weak, it spread like wild fire. Weak health systems means they are less able - to be responsive in a crisis. And resilient at the same time, as the bounce back hopefully stronger. The health workforce is critical to achieving health and wider development objectives. The workforce is one of the primary determinants of health system effectiveness. Fundamental part of our health care system and take up a huge chunk of our health care budget. Health workers are also the most costly component of the health system. Personnel are usually 50-80% of the public health sector budget. Health worker numbers and quality are positively associated with immunization coverage, outreach of primary care, and infant, child and maternal survival. Health workers are central to the functioning of all aspects of the health system.
