Document Summary

Psychology has a role to play with regards to its ability to be used in a meaningful way to predict injury. Low social support and low coping skills has a strong correlation with time loss in sports. As life stress goes up, so do injuries. 1. alteration of the cognitive appraisal of potential stressful events. 2. modifying the physiological and attentional aspects of the stress response. Effects of a stress management program on injuries and stress levels. Three time periods ( time 1= pre-season and pre-intervention, time 2=four months after time 1, time 3=four months after time 2) Most of these interfered with training for two weeks or less. A lot of overuse or chronic injuries that caused them to be out for longer. Stress levels go down in experimental group from time two to time three whereas the levels from control group continue to climb. Injury data favours experimental group than the control group.
