Slice of Brain – homunculus - People who have had amputations - still feel their limb there - Feeling of pain in phantom limb – strong sensation (burning/itching) SMA - Some role in controlling complex movements; independent movements between our two hands - Some projections that go directly into spinal cord – direct projection to spinal cord –SMA neurons can directly command alpha motor neurons - Internally generated movements – SMA plays important role – movements based one one’s own decision to move - Movement sequencing - the ability to put many movements together – SMA plays important role - Coordination between hands, internally generated movements, supports movement sequencing PMA - Sends fewer outputs to spinal cord - Triggered by external sensory events, and delayed action - PMA is important for visually guided movements
