Kinesiology 1080A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Psychological Refractory Period, Middle Frontal Gyrus, Inferior Frontal Gyrus
Document Summary
Have a direct pathway by which to initiate a saccade; very short involving few structures. Most well practiced and well reherseerd actions. Antisaccde: look in the areas in the opposite field of the target. Look away from target (if target is on right, when it shows up, look left) Cognitively complex task to perform bc we want to select a prosecracde bc its stimulus driven (override pro saccade) Ability to inhibit a stimulus given response; involves a lot of high-level cortical resources. Saccade is a rapid, jumping eye movement that directs your fovea to focus on what you are looking at. 1) inhibit prosecrade ; suppress urge: visual vector inversion: have to think about where the target is. 2) time consuming, cognitively driven- difficult task: overlap paradigm, money can see fixation cross then target flashes. Expriment: gap paradigm: reaction times are shorter- less time to provoke a prosecrade.
