Document Summary

Pns: autonomic (regulating internal environment, fight or flight reaction) & somatic (takes info from cns to skeletal muscles, also takes info to the brain and spinal cord) = divisions of the nervous system overlap one another throughout the spinal cord \ Basal ganglia starts and regulates movement -> initiates movement. Cerebellum is important in the timing of our movements (coordination) The brain stem is a relay center; all messages that enter or leave the brain must go through the brain stem. Red line=lateral- neurons are bigger and more complex, innervate muscles with the lateral components of the body (limbs) Blue line= medial-neurons are smaller and less complicated, fewer of them, innervate skeletal muscles associated with trunk, posture, back, on midline of body primarily in the midline of the body. Medial are smaller because you"re innervating large muscle groups that are working together, easier to communicate w/ a large group of muscle.
