58 views2 pages

Document Summary

Some functions are lateralized to certain sides of the brain -> cerebral asymmetry. Visuo-spatial skills is lateralized to right (left-neglect is visuo-spatial skill) Visual field info goes to contralateral side of the brain (left to right visual versa) Copus callosum -> links the left and right hemispheres to allow them to communicate. Over 2 million nerve fibers in the cc (corpus callosum) so if info goes to one side and needs to be used in the other it can get there. Split brain syndrome -> induced with a procedure of cutting the corpus callosum. Now the left and right brain don"t work together because they aren"t able to communicate. By cutting the corpus callosum and optic chiasm you can determine the independent functions of each cerebral hemisphere. Testing the functions of each hemisphere -> force monkey to use left or right hand to retrieve food from a button.
