Document Summary

Transcortical sensory aphasia : arises when there is a disconnection between wernicke"s and broca"s region. Arcuate fasciculus = bundle of axons connecting wernicke"s to broca"s area. Mri - diffusion tensor imagery (dti) - allows us to image pathways/connectivity in the brain. Tono man- has a legion in the arcuate fasciculus creating a disconnect between the ability to understand and produce speech (wernicke"s and broca"s) Neurons in the left speech region of our brain are more complex than the homologous right brain. More dendritic trees- more branches reaching out to connect with other neurons. Referred to as magnopyramidal neurons - largest neuron type found in the cortex, much more magnopyramidal neurons in the left hemisphere. Said to be the reason why speech and language is lateralized on the left hemisphere. Homologous = same position of the brain, opposite sides. Apraxia: a disorder of learned, skilled purposeful movement not related muscle paralysis or comprehension deficits.
