Document Summary

Mechanism behind blood pressure is the radius of the vasculature is different from upper body to lower body. Lower body has larger vasculature due to bigger muscles where as upper body has smaller vasculature and smaller muscles. With increases in viscosity, you build more pressure and it"s harder. With increases in viscosity, you build more pressure and it"s harder to pump which is problematic for heart function. Stroke volume - body position - cns - venous return - delta viscosity -affects on cardiac output. Exercise: steady state exercise (power output isn"t changing and below lactate threshold) Cardiovascular drift = increase in hr over time with no change in cardiac output. Red line (square) cardiac output doesn"t change but there is change in hr (goes up 15%) With systolic pressure every beat stretches and compresses the walls, over time it starts to vasodilate and radius starts to increase -> pressure is going to drop.
