Kinesiology 2230A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Anaerobic Glycolysis, Myocyte, Skeletal Muscle
Document Summary
So/st/type i, fog/fta/type iia, fg/ftb/type iib/x in humans: so contract slowly and have very little anaerobic capacity, fog contract fast and have glycolytic and oxidative capacities. Controls itself with assistance from the nervous and endocrine systems (adrenal gland releases epi and norepi to work on it) Found in the walls of blood vessels and internal organs: able to vasoconstrict and vasodilate blood vessels, metabolites lead to vasodilation: po2, pco2, and ph influence smooth muscle diameter. More than 430 muscles in the body and they come in pairs. Epimysium: connective tissue surrounding the whole muscle. A lattice of scaffolding proteins are embedded in muscle to give it strength to eventually move a bone about a joint. Binding sites for the proteins involved in signalling cascades. Contraction sequences happen in the myofibrils found in the muscle fiber. A muscle fiber can be up to 12cm long, even though they"re small in diameter. Actin: thin filament (also includes troponin and tropomyosin)
