Document Summary

Upper extremity is also known as arm. In this course, when we talk about the shoulder we mean the gleno-humeral joint. This is the articulation between the head of the humerus of the upper arm and the glenoid fossa of the scapula. This articulation is responsible for about 50% of your total range of motion of your arm with respect to your torso. The other 50% comes from the shoulder girdle. Bunch of muscles grab the humerus jam the joint medially into glenoid fossa. Scapula- flat for attachment of large bones. The glenoid fossa is a shallow depression in the lateral scapula. It is ringed by the rotator cuff made up of the tendons of the muscles that mobilize and stabilize the joint. Soft tissue of the rotary cuff to make it deeper. Dislocation is a problem because no contact between two bones.
