Seigneurial system: established in 1627, a way of life- shaped leisure and recreation, seigneurs: landlord, habitants: tenant. Exemplary manhood: survival of the colony rested on this system, the lands were arranged in long narrow strips, called seigneuries, along the banks of the st. lawrence river.
