Document Summary

Motor development: the study of movement behaviour and the underlying processes across the lifespan. At birth, we are not born with fully developed sensory and motor systems instead, we rely on re exive (involuntary) movements (ie. suckling re ex, or rub their cheek and will turn their head in that direction) When newborns are held up and their feet touch something, they will begin a stepping motion. These milestones happen in a range (ie. walking alone can occur between 9 and 18 months) First born children tend to develop motor skills later than consecutive born children. Consecutive children develop quicker because the parents know what they are doing ( rst child is more coddled) and the child has more exposure. There is a sensitive period for development have to be given exposure (ie. have to have tummy time to learn how to hold their head up)
