Custody : complement of rights and obligations of parent in respect of child, physical care and control, right to direct education, right to choose religious upbringing, right to determine medical care. Access includes the right to visit with and be visited by the child . Access includes the same right as a parent to make inquiries and to be given information as to the health, education and welfare of the child . Usage of term best limited to situations where more than one person has legal custody, regardless of living arrangements (residence of child) Each can exercise rights and responsibilities of a parent: s. 20(3) children"s law reform act, need agreement on major decisions or arrangement will break down. Not a custody order: however used in media, literature etc, narrowest meaning, parents have joint custody and child resides with each parent for significant periods of time broadest meaning, each parent plays meaningful role.
