During the time of anselm (1033-1109) and aquinas (1225-1274) many major events occurred including: the second, third, and fourth crusades; the signing of the magna. Both believe in god and his existence. Both believe that god"s existence is self-evident. God: that being than which nothing greater can be thought: a being that exists is greater than one that does not exist. In re: in reality in intellectu; in our mind: therefore being in re is better than being in intellectu. God exists as individuals believe him to exist: those who do not believe in his existence, do not understand god and his definition for if they did they could not deny his existence. Criticism of anselm: the definition of god only allows certain people to have the proof of the existence of god.
