Hr are people with all the individualism that that implies. For organizations, this presents a challenge but also considerable strengths. Hrm is the management (direction, coercion) of hr to achieve the goals, objectives of the company. They involve policies and procedures that guide the people towards the common goal. We are looking at practical applications of psychology, economics, etc. It is a remarkably contingent upon the organizations set-up, values, and goals. So we use a contingency approach an approach that is situation-dependant. Employees 100 years ago were costs; expendable, replaceable, yet necessary. Studies done at the hawthorne electric plant done between conditions and employee productivity. This showed that the workplace was a social organization populated by people that did not always act in an economically rational fashion, but was a social environment affected by the dynamics of the people that populated it.
