Sources of the law: constitution always trumps law, constitutional democracy where the government is bound by law, statues/legislation, common law/case law. Consitutional law s. 91- federal jurisdiction s. 92 provincial jurisdiction. Canada distinct because of charter of rights and freedoms. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: freedom of conscience and religion, freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression, freedom of peaceful assembly, freedom of association. Other rights and freedoms include: democratic rights. Limitations on the charter of rights and freedoms: only applies to government (s. 32)
