Manufacturing organizations: produce physical, tangible goods that can be stored in inventory before they are needed, typically have low customer contact. Service organizations: produce an intangible product, such as ideas, assistance or information. Short response time, labour intensive: may overlap eg. manufacture of furniture may also provide shipments of goods and assembly. In pure service companies some segments of operations may have low customer contact some high eg. fast food.
