Invented the kinetograph--a motion picture camera, 1892, takes moving images: the viewing machine that is used to see these 20 second long films is the. Kinetoscope: 35 mm black and white motion pictures--about 15 seconds long, focused on lots of action and movement. Dancers, acrobats, prize fighters, vaudeville performers: edison "studio, rise of kinescope parlours, disappear by 1990. Inventing the projector: francis jenkins/ thomas armat. Basic principle, by 1895: august and louis lumiere. Combined cinema and projection: communal experience--many view at the same time unlike kinetoscopes. A type of theater with musical acts, variety acts, etc. Would put films in at the end of one act, a chaser, between two acts. Arcade owners would set up a room to show films in the arcade. Booked a room and presented the films for a price.
