Human life is relentlessly prescribed into a relaionship without breaks: in the novel, the markets don"t close, stock informaion never stops lowing. Cosmopolis is a book about the future, and about the technologies thata are summoning us all to live permanently in the future: how we perceive technology as some sort of capitalist future. The future is not growing in the city but in the growing pile of techno trash: we like eric prasner have no sense in the present. Where the present we ignore enirely even though we turn it in to a trash heap. Cosmopolis deals with more than the depicions of greed and quesion beyond the meaning of technology: the primary theme he works through is not greed and technology but something of greater importance. It is a book about thought, what passes for thinking and the plaforms of culture that it presents itself on.
