Tracing this idea can be seen through fairy tales. Stories are filled with dead mothers, absent fathers, terrifying witches, strongly sexual: frightening but appropriate for children. After 17th century, we find cleaned up versions of these stories because the child is considered sacred: stories that are meant to represent the contemporary representation of the child.
