50s, magnetic tape changed recording, everybody can buy a recording equipment and make their own music. Mixtape culture, people start to cut tape together. How indie works, indie label, sell out to someone else, or make deals with others. Mp3, technologies, trying to compress music store. Apple almost die in the 80s, live along in 90s, then the ipods came out. Digital products led to crisis in popular music"s commodity form . Digital delivery did not fundamentally change the recording industry. Right is a sign credits to recording industry. From companies selling to end-users to b2b sales. Labels monetized things that were formality not monetized. Has made it harder to really succeed without major backing. Reinforces unequal power relationships of the music industries. A new mind, if people talk about the music and communicate what they are listening through their lists, which could be creating another culture.
