Empathy and compassion are not enough should be more. Strong component of reflection: cannot grow and develop without it. Strengths = jewel box may take them out and use them in practice. Must have strong self-awareness: reading own responses and interpretations of information in situations. Knowing what you know and what you don"t know. Uncertainty is a sign of humility, and humility is the willingness to learn . Although we have expert knowledge, we should not impose ourselves in our patient"s situations: learning from clients client is the expert on themselves. Willingness to accept all perspectives as a possibility. May choose own beliefs while maintaining open mind. Value the client"s stories which reates authentic presence (physical noticing; psychological communication, active listening, empathy; therapeutic presence goal of nurses)with the patient. Not judging people due to their beliefs. Avoid temptation to criticize what they have done in the past: be aware of nonverbal language.
