For a person to grow, they need an environment that is genuine, accepting that human beings are human (we are all flawed), and empathetic. Without these relationships will not develop properly. Incongruent and congruent: no such thing as perfect congruence, incongruent: self-image is different to the ideal self, there is only little overlap, self-actualization will be difficult. Ideal self: congruent: self-image is similar to ideal self, more of an overlap, person can self- actualize. Self-worth- regard positively: being valued and being respected, these lead towards self-worth, ability to self-actualize are able to learn and grow in the ways you want to, leave out your dreams and say and do what you want. Empathy: ability to have this unable to have unconditional regard. Nurses must be receptive to hearing clients perceptions and feelings. Vs. feeling/being worse off if not understood. Feelings of being valued, accepted as a person. Used early in relationships predictive of success (earlier in the tr,
