Describe nursing, the person and health through watson"s caring lens". Overall for you to understand why caring theories, such as watson"s are important. Busy (long wait times) and length of stays are shorter (assembly line approach) Reactive rather than preventative: putting band aids on large wounds. Biomedical approach: relying on medications and diagnoses. Willingness to take risk and invest resources into other people is rare today. Caring defines nursing and empowers nurses to be a holistic profession: must make a conscious effort to preserve this nursing theories must be the foundation of our work. We are the light in institutional darkness, and in this model we get to return to the light of our humanity , Can be applied to nursing care, nursing administration, nursing research and nursing. Have the power to heal helping patients move past stressors.
