Therapeutic relationship is based on these three concepts . Intentionality: taking initiative, being authentic, mutuality, questioning beyond the surface, letting be, self-observing, listening. Interpersonal communication can be challenging to achieve as it depends on the individuals perception, it can be very easily misinterpreted. What influences perception : 5 senses-> sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell, culture, education, personal background. Intrapersonal: self talk (inner talk, occurs with an individual, helps develop self-awareness, helps develop positive self concept. Interpersonal: one to one between the nurse-patient, often face-to face, used most often in nursing, takes place in social context, meaning must be validated/negotiated. Transpersonal: occurs within spiritual domain, utilizes spiritual inquiry (rn joins with patient to explore what is meaningful/significant in their unique context) Illuminates context, understandings, experiences, hopes: prayer, meditation, guided reflection.
